How hibiscus does help with hair?

Hair fall, hair loss, or any hair-related problem has its roots attached to the underlying body heat. The aggravated pitta dosha can increase body heat and cause various hair-related problems.

Pitta dosh is one of the imbalances that our body faces according to Ayurveda. In Ayurveda human body is made up of five types of elements. These are the basic elements like fire, water, earth,  air, and space. Of these combined comes 3 types of dosha which are Vata, pitta, and Kapha.

Amongst these 3 dosh pitta dosha is related to body heat, people with pitta dosha means pitta imbalance usually report excessive heat in their body and they are advised to consume food that can balance the pitta dosha.

Foods that are advised mostly belong to the cold potency. The body heat gets accumulated due to various reasons and causes pitta dosha in the body.

Hibiscus and hair

Hibiscus flowers and leaves are so beneficial for hair and scalp that it's unimaginable that such a magical herb was not explored enough. Our ancient history speaks very highly of the hibiscus flower and its benefits for hair let's discuss in brief:

Improve regrowth of hair

Hibiscus is proven helpful in accelerating hair growth, as it is rich in flavonoids and amino acids. The former is a stimulator that helps in improving blood circulation in the head. This process helps in improving the available oxygen and also prevents impurity buildup. It also helps with the building block for hair growth the amino acids such as keratin.

Hibiscus has proven benefits of reducing the signs and patches of baldness in people, after using hibiscus treatment for their hair they have seen dramatic change. It works as efficiently as any highly expensive medicine or drug which has a low success rate of improving baldness and accelerating hair growth.

Premature graying

The prolonged exposure to sunlight on our scalp and skin can harm the very skin of the scalp. For our overall skin, we use a protective layer of sunscreen to protect the body against harmful UV rays. Due to this heavy sun exposure graying and thinning of hair can be witnessed. The flavonoid present in the hibiscus flower helps with this damage caused by the sun and protects the skin against grey hair.

In ancient households, hibiscus is used as a dying agent for grey hairs. Because of the presence of a high amount of antioxidants, various vitamins, and flavonoids the hibiscus helps in inducing the production of melanin in the skin and helps in producing the color for the grey strains.

Dandruff

The imbalance of Vata and Kapha dosha in the body can cause dandruff. Dandruff is a situation when the scalp has a build-up of skin it can be dry which later comes up as flakes. These flakes of dandruff can block the follicles and skin. Blocked follicles of hair make it difficult for new hair to regrow and old hair will start falling due to lack of nourishment. During this time, individuals will experience heavy hair fall and a low hair regrowth rate.

Hibiscus leaves and their past is beneficial in controlling oil in the scalp, as due to an oily scalp wet dandruff started appearing and giving rise to an itchy scalp.

Hibiscus flowers are also helpful in controlling the sebum levels of the scalps. The excess sebum in the scalp gives rise to an oily and itchy scalp. Hibiscus flowers can maintain sebum levels and make hair look smooth and frizz-free.

Ayurvedic tips for hair are:

  • Oiling regularly with a gentle massage that helps in blood circulation.

  • Washing hair with a gentle shampoo prevents breakage and ingredients that do not contain a lot of chemicals.

  • Increase the amount of biotin in your diet, do not incline towards biotin supplements but eat biotin-rich food to help you with biotin deficiency.

Hibiscus remedies:

  • Start using hibiscus and fenugreek seed-infused oil on your scalp.

  • Cook leaves and flowers of hibiscus with oil. You can use coconut oil and then cool it down and use that oil.

  • Make a paste out of the leaves of the hibiscus flower and apply it gently on the scalp.
