Significance of Shravan Somwar in 2022
Shiva worshipers mark Shravan, the fifth month of the Hindu calendar. Shravan, which lasts for an entire month, is observed by fasting and prayer. There are two calendars that are used during Shravan: one is used in North India and is known as the Purnima calendar, while the Amavasyant calendar is used in the South. Because of this, India's Shravan festivities differ.

The most fortunate month of the year in Hinduism is Shravan, also known as Sawan. Sawan is indeed the fifth month in the Hindu calendar, falling during July and August.

Every Monday in the month of Shravan is devoted to Lord Shiva, and those who follow him fasting for 16 Mondays in order to receive his blessings do so as part of the Sawan Somawar Vrat.

Tuesdays are entirely devoted to Goddess Parvati, whereas Mondays are given over to Lord Shiva. This fast on Tuesdays, known as the "Mangal Gauri Vrat," is observed by many devotees.

Haryali Amavasya and Sawan Shivratri are also among the lucky days of Shravan Month, along with Sawan Somvar Vrat and Mangal Gauri Vrat.

Purnima to Purnima and Amavasya to Amavasya are the two methods used to mark the lunar month. People in India's northern region prefer the first option, while those in the southern part of the country choose the latter.

The fasting on Monday is associated with a tale that describes the Samudra Manthan, or the churning of the said sea to obtain the nectar of eternity. Shiva is claimed to have ingested poison at the time to stop it from spreading over the cosmos. Poison is reported to have also surfaced from the sea at that time. Shiva's throat turned blue as a result of Parvati's attempt to block the poison from reaching his body after she saw him drink it, earning him the nickname Neelkanth.

Shiva devotees offer prayers and fasts throughout the full month in an effort to win his favor. They think that going without food on a Monday would make them happy and wedded or will hasten their engagement. On Mondays, women maintain a fast in hopes of finding excellent husbands. Many people hold the view that reciting the Solah Somvar Vrath, also known as the 16 Fast Mondays, would make Shiva happy and grant them prosperity and pleasure.

Devotees should refrain from consuming non-vegetarian food and alcohol for the entire month when fasting on a Monday. Medical professionals believe that this is healthy for the body since it detoxifies the digestive tract. Additionally, fasting promotes weight loss and mental and physical renewal.

On Mondays, many people refrain from eating anything and only consume water. Additionally, these folks avoid foods that contain onion and garlic. Others choose to fast only partially, which allows them to eat fruits as well as other vrat foods like sabudana. Many people do these rituals in the hopes that Shiva may grant their desire or want.
